Il volume 'Exploring the Role of Court Interpreters in KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa' (Analisi del ruolo degli interpreti giudiziari nella provincia del KwaZulu-Natal, in Sudafrica) esamina il modo in cui gli interpreti giudiziari svolgono le proprie mansioni nel rispetto dell’etica professionale all’interno del sistema giudiziario sudafricano. Attraverso uno studio di caso qualitativo condotto presso il Tribunale di primo grado di Durban, il libro si avvale di interviste, osservazione partecipativa, analisi documentale e trascrizioni processuali per esaminare la consapevolezza degli interpreti in merito ai principi etici, la loro osservanza del Codice etico e la loro percezione del proprio ruolo professionale. Lo studio evidenzia le sfide che gli interpreti devono affrontare nel conciliare imparzialità, accuratezza e riservatezza con le ulteriori responsabilità in aula. Conclude che standard etici chiaramente definiti, lo sviluppo professionale continuo e il sostegno istituzionale sono essenziali per migliorare la qualità dell’interpretazione, salvaguardare i diritti linguistici e promuovere un accesso equo alla giustizia in un Sudafrica multilingue.
