a) Introdução à problemática: A Declaração do Milénio consagra o direito da criança à educação gratuita e obrigatória, como um objetivo a alcançar até 2015. No entanto, à luz dos indicadores, o contexto atual da RDC continua a ser menos promissor. b) Resumo do conteúdo: O presente trabalho analisa o direito da criança à educação no direito internacional contemporâneo. Aborda ainda a efetividade desse direito na RDC e propõe estratégias que possam contribuir para a sua melhoria, cujo desenvolvimento exige que se inspirem nos progressos alcançados por outros países. Se, e apenas se, a vontade política for manifesta, nada impede que o país consiga superar as dificuldades até ao prazo estabelecido pela ONU, uma vez que continua a ser uma potência em potencial. Entretanto, a prioridade continua a ser a melhoria das condições salariais dos professores. c) Público-alvo: O trabalho apresenta interesse social, científico e pedagógico. Destina-se a futuros investigadores científicos e constitui uma ferramenta pedagógica para o mundo educativo, bem como para as instituições estatais e não estatais que intervêm no acesso à educação.
