Gli ecosistemi naturali d’acqua dolce dei delta fluviali sono i più ricchi dal punto di vista biologico e, al tempo stesso, molto fragili di fronte agli impatti antropici e tecnologici. In questo lavoro vengono esaminati i processi attuali di distruzione antropica catastrofica degli ecosistemi deltizi del Dniester e del Danubio nella regione settentrionale del Mar Nero, prendendo come esempio rappresentanti della fauna di fondo: le oche grigie e altri uccelli palustri. È stata condotta una valutazione ecologica degli impatti antropici più distruttivi per l’ambiente naturale: la caccia di massa con armi da fuoco agli uccelli palustri nella regione del Mar Nero nel periodo 1974 e il 2011 e i lavori di regolazione idrica della potente diga delle centrali idroelettriche (CIE) sul fiume Dniester nel periodo 1983-2014. Vengono descritte le conseguenze catastrofiche dello sfruttamento da parte dell’uomo delle risorse naturali dei delta fluviali della regione del Mar Nero e vengono fornite raccomandazioni per la tutela dell’ambiente naturale nel sud dell’Ucraina. Il libro è rivolto a studenti e docenti di istituti di biologia ed ecologia, nonché a funzionari dei ministeri dell’ecologia e delle foreste, a tecnici delle centrali idroelettriche, a cacciatori con fucile e a coloro che gestiscono le risorse idriche, energetiche e biologiche della regione del Mar Nero.
