Os idosos são mais vulneráveis ​​à depressão. Conduzimos este estudo para estimar a prevalência de depressão e estudar a associação da depressão com variáveis ​​demográficas e clínicas entre idosos de uma comunidade rural. O objetivo do estudo é avaliar a depressão em pacientes geriátricos usando escala de depressão geriátrica: formato curto (GDS: SF -15) e descobrir se fatores psicossociais, fatores demográficos, fatores de estilo de vida, fatores socioeconômicos estão associados à depressão, também para avaliar o nível de apoio social em relação à depressão. O estudo foi desenhado como um estudo prospectivo observacional transversal realizado em um hospital terciário para determinar a prevalência de depressão entre geriatria usando a Escala de Depressão Geriátrica Short Form (GDS-SF). 250 pacientes com idade acima de 65 anos estão incluídos. A técnica de amostragem aleatória simples foi empregada para seleção dos participantes. São coletados idade, sexo, situação de vida, duração do sono, comorbidades e apoio social.
