Gli spazi verdi urbani stanno assumendo un’importanza sempre maggiore per la biodiversità. La coltivazione di specie vegetali esotiche importate da regioni lontane del mondo è stata riconosciuta come una componente importante della vegetazione urbana. Questo studio mira a valutare la ricchezza di piante legnose presenti negli spazi verdi urbani in termini di densità, ricchezza e composizione, nonché a indagare le opinioni e gli atteggiamenti dei residenti in merito alla loro soddisfazione riguardo alle condizioni attuali delle aree verdi. Abbiamo registrato 96 specie vegetali, appartenenti a 77 generi e 38 famiglie. Le famiglie più rappresentate sono state le Rosaceae (14 specie) (18,18%), le Cupressaceae (11 specie) (14,28%) e le Fabaceae (5 specie) (6,49%). Più specificatamente, i risultati di questo studio hanno mostrato che solo il 41,6% degli alberi era costituito da specie autoctone greche, mentre il 58,4% era di origine esotica. Le specie legnose più frequenti e abbondanti erano il Platanus orientalis e la Thuja orientalis (60%), e rispettivamente il Ligustrum japonicum (N=588) e la Thuja orientalis (N=258). I risultati hanno evidenziato che le piazze presentavano i valori più elevati di ricchezza di specie e che gli indici di diversità erano anche quelli preferiti dai visitatori.
