La fornitura di acqua potabile e di strutture igienico-sanitarie è da tempo una delle principali preoccupazioni degli attori dello sviluppo nel Sahel. Di conseguenza, in Burkina Faso sono state avviate iniziative per sviluppare questo settore e soddisfare le esigenze delle popolazioni rurali e urbane. Tuttavia, la situazione nelle aree rurali è ancora preoccupante, da qui l’attenzione al comune di Bieha, i cui villaggi hanno problemi di approvvigionamento di acqua potabile e di servizi igienici. L’obiettivo generale dello studio è esaminare le condizioni per migliorare l’accesso all’acqua potabile e ai servizi igienici familiari nel comune di Bieha. La metodologia utilizzata per realizzare lo studio è consistita innanzitutto in una ricerca documentaria, seguita dalla raccolta di dati quantitativi e qualitativi presso 186 famiglie e infine da una fase di elaborazione e analisi dei dati. I risultati dello studio rivelano la mancanza di infrastrutture per l’acqua potabile, la cattiva gestione di queste infrastrutture e le debolezze nel funzionamento delle WUA.
