Według Podręcznika Diagnostyki i Statystyki Zaburzeń Psychicznych, piąte wydanie (DSM-V), obejmują one intelektualne zaburzenia rozwojowe, zaburzenia komunikacyjne, zaburzenia spektrum zaburzeń autystycznych (ASD), zaburzenia nadpobudliwości psychoruchowej (ADHD), specyficzne zaburzenia uczenia się i zaburzenia ruchowe.Wspieranie dzieci z zaburzeniami rozwoju neurologicznego (NDD) jest uznawane za coraz ważniejszy priorytet INGO, organizacji pozarządowych i GMC w Jammu i Kaszmirze. Naszym celem było opisanie naszego podejścia do identyfikacji dzieci z zaburzeniami rozwoju neurologicznego poprzez ten projekt badawczy, a następnie skierowanie ich do Kliniki Autyzmu IMHANS GMC w celu dalszej oceny i formalnej diagnozy. Zespół badawczy, w skład którego wchodzą autorzy, ściśle współpracował z wolontariuszami Kliniki Autyzmu, pedagogami specjalnymi, logopedami, terapeutami zajęciowymi i psychologami w celu poprawy jakości ocen psychologicznych, diagnostyki i usług interwencyjnych dla dzieci z zaburzeniami neurorozwojowymi i ich rodziców.
