¿Qué hay detrás de quienes se han precipitado a las líneas del metro, lanzado tras las barandas de centros comerciales o se retiraron del ajetreo mundano para sellar en un acto desesperado un historial de sufrimientos interiores? Lo triste de esta realidad, de por sí conmovedora y no tan fácil de develar ni dimensionar en todo su alcance, es que este número de suicidios podría ser aún mayor en el contexto de una sociedad tras la que se han ido introduciendo vastos tormentos que intensifican los propios de la existencia humana. El problema está lejos de ser materia exclusiva de los profesionales de la salud, atañe a una complicidad de dinámicas que no solo terminan resultando dañinas, sino letales, y de las que difícilmente se pueda quedar exento de toda responsabilidad. De hecho, la devastación de la naturaleza puede ser considerada también una forma de autodestrucción en cuanto involucra al individuo y a la especie, resultando ser una activa forma de destrucción del entorno natural, vital tanto para la vida del ser humano como para la preservación de la biodiversidad. El acto de darse muerte a sí mismo puede ser personal, pero las circunstancias y el ambiente que rodearon a la persona fallecida son construidas de manera colectiva. A través de diversos planteamientos filosóficos en torno al tema, este libro busca acompañar y contener en el camino de la comprensión, no solo a aquellos que quedaron tras el suicidio de un ser querido, sino también a quienes enfrentan las sombras implicadas en un acto que la razón muchas veces no es capaz de prever, prevenir ni iluminar en su totalidad.
