Esta obra sumerge al lector en episodios que delatan y advierten acerca del enamoramiento narcisista. Paralelamente, a través de personajes secundarios, se exponen otros tipos de abuso. Sin embargo, la autora promueve una luz de esperanza destinada a aquellas mujeres que no tienen voz cuando escribe: «La valentía no es ocultar o no sentir vergüenza de lo que nos pasó. La valentía de Claudia consiste primero en aceptar lo que nos ocurrió y luego perdonarnos… solo entonces comenzaremos a sobrevivir».
