John Helmsman was once an established English professor and celebrated author with a family that he loved even more than his work. But when a brutal accident takes the life of his son his world falls apart. Five years after his son’s death, John has managed to alienate and distance himself from almost every person in his life. None more so than his now ex-wife and daughter due to his shameful decent into an alcohol fueled sabbatical from reality. His best friend and an empathetic cop appear to be the only ones still holding the tenuous thread keeping him from a complete emersion into darkness. When a failed attempt to attend his daughter’s sixteenth birthday blows up in his face it turns out to be the final act to push him over the edge. John decides to take the ultimate step to remove himself from the ones who love him. Shrouded in dark comedy, grief, sadness and redemption, John attempts to claw his way from six feet under and back into the light.
