L’ensemble du livre est divisé en plusieurs chapitres, chacun d’entre eux traitant d’un rendez-vous ou d’une réunion à laquelle a assisté un interprète linguistique, qu’il s’agisse d’un rendez-vous médical ou d’une réunion sociale. Il s’agit de cas réels auxquels l’interprète a été confronté. Ils concernent tous des patients étrangers qui ont des difficultés avec la langue locale. Les sujets abordés sont très variés, le plus souvent liés aux maladies dont souffre le patient qui se présente au rendez-vous.Il y a des cas de patients cancéreux, de santé mentale, de diabète, de personnes ayant eu un accident vasculaire cérébral, d’autres ayant des problèmes physiques (AVC), d’autres ayant des problèmes physiques et ayant besoin de physiothérapie, des cas de physiothérapeutes, des cas de personnes ayant subi une intervention chirurgicale, et bien d’autres encore, y compris l’explication de certaines visites à domicile. Dans toutes ces sessions, il y a une exposition directe des dialogues entre les participants, l’interprète, le psychologue et le patient. entre les participants, l’interprète, le psychologue et le patient, avec des contributions théoriques et des commentaires personnels de l’interprète selon le point de vue personnel correspondant à chaque situation.
