L’Alriplex halimus L. è un’importante pianta foraggera nelle zone aride del Mediterraneo. Lo scopo di questo studio è identificare, all’interno della diversità genetica naturale di una popolazione, i tipi che possono comportarsi in modo ottimale in determinate condizioni saline. Le osservazioni si sono concentrate sul comportamento in vitro di piante annaffiate con una soluzione salina composta da NaCl +CaCl2 a 400 e 600 meq e con acqua di mare diluita al 50% e non diluita. I risultati ottenuti hanno mostrato che gli indicatori dello stato idrico della pianta erano sensibili alle variazioni del contenuto salino del substrato. Inoltre, l’uso di due tipi di substrato con concentrazioni saline crescenti ha causato variazioni strutturali e biochimiche nelle piante testate. Tuttavia, il comportamento delle piante in relazione all’origine del sale non è sempre simile e questa reazione deve essere presa in considerazione se vogliamo comprendere meglio la complessità dei meccanismi che consentono alla pianta di adattarsi.
