“Dar a cada emoción una personalidad, a cada estado de alma un alma”._x000D_ Atribuido a su ortónimo Bernardo Soares, este libro se presenta como la gran obra en prosa de Fernando Pessoa, donde este heterónimo es el retrato de un ayudante contable en una Lisboa decrépita. A través de un tono melancólico, narra sus preocupaciones y vivencias mediante fragmentos intimistas que dan la apariencia de un diario personal y que fueron recogiéndose por escrito durante gran parte de su vida. En él trata aspectos relativos al amor, la amistad y realiza constantes disertaciones filosóficas. Esta representación del Pessoa más íntimo irá construyendo el espacio a través de cada uno de los fragmentos que componen la obra, permitiendo al autor alejarse para observar un “yo” reconstruido en la ficción de Bernardo Soares y mostrando una Lisboa decadente, que acabará siendo reflejo de la catarsis interna del poeta.
