The potentially catastrophic problems we face in our world today are the result of a massive spiritual failure. Mankind appears to have forgotten its connection to our souls’ core missions in our lives on this planet: to love and nurture ourselves, and the earth as well.But when you look around it’s obvious that we’re not really loving and nurturing when we cause the environment to decline and the climate to become inhospitable; when we keep wasting money and resources by amassing petrifying weapons to fight horrific wars; when we fail to take care of the weak; and when we demonize each other with so much vitriol and hatred that nothing effective seems to get accomplished. We are out of control as a species, and it is our children and grandchildren who will suffer greatly from our failures unless we find the 'fire in our bellies' to act now.After an over forty year career as an attorney, counsellor, teacher, author and community volunteer, Doug Irmen’s thesis in Let There Be Light: Saving Ourselves and Our Planet Through a Global Social Compact is that genuine spirituality cannot be divorced from the physical world which our souls now inhabit; that spirituality finds its meaning and expression through the way we bring our values to bear on the issues we are confronted with on Planet Earth; and that the time is URGENT--RIGHT NOW-for a giant societal leap that will heal and transform our dangerous, bitterly divided world by embracing the wisdom, and manifesting the energy, of a higher form of consciousness than we have until now displayed.To accomplish this we must devise a specific way to bring the Light in our souls and the Love in our hearts to bear on our daunting challenges, to lay out a how-to for doing this on a global scale so that we can cooperate in saving ourselves and our planet from destruction. We will do this by using the internet to bring about the adoption of a worldwide Social Compact, a grass-roots spiritual and political movement that supersedes governments and will promote the core values that all peoples ultimately share. The Social Compact will connect like-minded people in an urgent crusade to reverse the course we are on. It will do this by establishing an international Light Network comprised of good-willed people who will share their ideas and strategies for funneling the core goodness we all have within us into a metaphorical but highly impactful ball of Light that beams out the conscience of mankind. A conscience that says NO MORE to our current failure to get along and cooperate. A conscience that will overwhelm our societies and governments with the message that NOW IS THE TIME to change course and love and respect all life on earth.Doug Irmen’s Let There Be Light advocates for the creation of a new worldwide social and political will that is grounded in universal spirituality.
