Ce livre Les villes de l’Algérie antique au travers des sources arabes du Moyen Âge s’inscrit dans le cadre de recherches portant sur l’Algérie antique et l’Algérie médiévale. Il bat en brèche le silence qui faisait supposer une rupture de plusieurs siècles entre ces deux périodes. Bien au contraire, interrogeant les sources arabes, il met en lumière leur connaissance d’un passé remontant à l’antiquité et permet donc d’affirmer et de démontrer une continuité. L’auteur, Bakhta Moukraenta Abed a voulu faire une étude exhaustive des villes antiques de l’Algérie et de leur évolution. Elle a rassemblé et interrogé le maximum de textes arabes traitant ou évoquant l’Algérie antique et ce livre constitue donc un manuel pratique pour les chercheurs des deux périodes antique et médiévale. Il se situe dans la continuité du colossal travail élaboré il y a plus d’un siècle par S. Gsell dans son Atlas archéologique de l’Algérie . Mais il le complète et l’enrichit grâce à une relecture référencée et très précise des textes arabes.
