Este libro es un relato autobiográfico intentando explicar las situaciones vividas por una niña de seis años en los años cincuenta en la «Siberia Extremeña» donde a tan corta edad ya se la pedía ganarse el pan que se comía cada día.Primeramente en el campo, y después de emigrar a la capital, buscando ese pan que en Extremadura nos era negado, los niños de aquellos años sobre todo los que nacimos los primeros, supimos rápidamente cuál era nuestro oficio. Nuestros padres se encargaron de hacérnoslo saber muy pronto y muy claro.Ayudarles a criar a sus hijos más pequeños, nosotros los primogénitos no teníamos ningún derecho, ya cuando nacimos traíamos «el sello puesto de ir a trabajar», no ir a la escuela, no vivir con tus hermanos, siendo una extraña para todos ellos, pero eso no nos destrozó la vida, al revés, hizo de nosotros mujeres y hombres de bien. Sin estudios, solo los que nos dio la naturaleza, en mi caso hasta los doce años, en el campo extremeño y después en la selva de la ciudad.
