En efecto, el acto sexual se encuentra revestido de características contradictorias. Por un lado, es tabú. Sin embargo, despierta curiosidad, genera placer y es imprescindible para la supervivencia de la especie. Como señala Bataille, Eros y Tanatos son caras opuestas de la misma moneda, facetas de la vida interior del hombre que lo marcan. Aunque aquel busque afuera de sí al objeto de su deseo, la sexualidad es, paradójicamente, a la vez inmanentey trascendente. Si Sartre señala que nos sentimos objetivados en la mirada del otro, el acto sexual despersonaliza, en especial a las mujeres quienes, en pocas ocasiones, tienen la oportunidad de hablar sobre su propia sexualidad e incluso de dictar los términos del encuentro sexual. 10
