Diputado en Cortes, Pablo Alonso de la Avecilla es también escritor, dramaturgo y jurista. Publicó, entre otras obras, un libro sobre la Legislación militar española (1842) y este novela histórica, que es más bien historia novelada. 'La conquista del Perú ' trata del proceso histórico de anexión del Imperio inca al Imperio español.Al tender en el siglo XVI una mirada filosófico por todos los continentes europeos, por todo el antiguo mundo, el alma del hombre sensible se reconcentra melancólicamente, y su corazón late agitado. No era sólo en España donde se sintiera con horror, entre el crujido de las armas sarracenas, el duro yugo del feudalismo, y después la tiranía de los reyes; no sólo las comarcas españolas se estremecieran al contemplar las espantosas escenas con que el negro fanatismo ensangrentara la pura y dulce religión de Jesús; el antiguo mundo envuelto en densas tinieblas de ignorancia, presentaba por do quiera el más desconsolador espectáculo; y graduar la conducta de los hombres públicos de aquella triste época, por la moralidad y filosofía de nuestro siglo, sería incurrir en gravísimos errores. El héroe más eminente del siglo XVI, sería el que más en heroico grado poseyera el fanatismo religioso de su época, junto con el feroz arrojo personal en los combates.
