Das Ziel dieser Studie ist es, eine umfassende Beschreibung der Rolle von Sprachen, insbesondere von indigenen Sprachen, im Sekundarschulunterricht in Bangladesch zu liefern. Mit dieser Forschung möchte ich die Rolle der Muttersprachen in der Bildung ermitteln. Bangladesch hat einen zentral gestalteten Lehrplan, der sich nicht auf Minderheitensprachen konzentriert. Obwohl Stammessprachen weder im vorgesehenen noch im operativen Lehrplan enthalten sind, wirkt sich dies auf die Unterrichtspraktiken im Klassenzimmer sowie auf das Leben der Stammesschüler aus. Da die Unterrichtssprache Bangla ist, werden die Kulturen, Identitäten und Erfahrungen der Stammesschüler in den täglichen Unterrichtsaktivitäten nicht berücksichtigt. Ausgehend von der Auffassung des Lehrplans als Instrument zur sozialen Kontrolle von Wissen zeige ich, wie der Lehrplan für Sekundärsprachen soziale Ungleichheit fördert, indem er Bangla und Englisch intellektuell über weniger angesehene Stammessprachen stellt, indem er indigene Sprachen, Kultur und Werte nicht einbezieht.
