Ryan Meehan
A Firsthand Memoir of Combat, Command, and ServiceWar doesn’t lend itself to easy answers, and leadership in combat leaves no place to hide. For readers who want an honest account of military service and what it truly means to lead soldiers under fire, In Search of Service offers something most military memoirs and leadership books do not: a first-person account from an Army officer who lived it.In this Afghanistan war memoir, Meehan traces the full arc of becoming an officer, from the life-changing impact of 9/11 to West Point, Ranger School, Airborne training, combat deployments with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, and the difficult transition from military to civilian life. The result is an inspiring military story grounded in service and sacrifice, frontline leadership, and hard-won self-discipline.Inside, readers will discover:How a search for purpose led one young man from civilian life into the U.S. Army and toward combat leadership. What training at West Point, Ranger School, and Airborne School teaches about discipline, resilience, and responsibility. How calm, clear decisions in chaos can build trust, protect soldiers, and shape leadership in war.Why the emotional toll of combat does not end at redeployment and how veterans face life after service. What military command, sacrifice, and accountability can teach any reader about courage, service, and character. In Search of Service is a soldier’s story, an officer’s memoir, and a rare look at leadership few professionals get to see up close. If you want a powerful battlefield memoir about combat, purpose, and the realities of command, this book belongs on your shelf.
