Las raíces del éxodo cubano se encuentran impregnadas de los históricos acontecimientos de finales de la década de los cincuenta. Su origen ha dado lugar a muchas polémicas y controversias y durante muchos años ha sido tema de de innumerables discusiones. Aún en hoy en día hay variadas opiniones sobre cuál fue la causa de la drástica revolución que afectó a toda la población del país y que impelió a muchos a abandonar la tierra en que habían nacido y el ambiente cultural en el que se habían criado. Debido a la connotación política de esos trascendentes hechos históricos es imposible llegar a un consenso sobre qué los provocó y cómo ocurrieron exactamente. Quizás bajo la tutela de la ficción sea posible ver esos eventos más objetivamente. Es posible que así se puedan reconstruir en una versión conciliatoria que al menos deje que algunos sean recordados con nostalgia por aquellos que vivieron el exilio, y que permita que el público en general los comprenda mejor y los juzgue más compasivamente. Ese ha sido el propósito del autor al crear el personaje de Aldo Ochoa, un hombre como muchos miles de raíces humildes que, sin estar afiliados a ningún partido político y sin sustentar ninguna ideología determinada, se sintieron acorralados por los acontecimientos que ocurrieron en Cuba a finales del año 1958 y a principios de 1959. Al protagonista de Generación perdida le ocurre lo que a muchos otros cubanos de su generación. Un inexorable destino maneja su suerte caprichosamente y lo lleva por rumbos desconocidos donde nunca imaginó encontrarse. Pero su increíble entereza y su fortaleza espiritual le permiten vencer los obstáculos que se le presentan a cada paso. De simple campesino se convierte en un astuto ganadero. Se recobra del injustificado castigo que le imponen dos tiranías. Y cuando ve a su familia amenazada por un sistema ideológico avasallador y restrictivo, como otros hombres de su misma generación, renuncia a todo por salvarla. Pero el destino se ensaña con Aldo. Con increíble encono lo persigue hasta el mismo seno de su familia y llega a arremeter contra su existencia. No obstante, queda al final una interrogación cuya respuesta sólo el lector puede decidirla. ¿Logra el destino derrotar a Aldo? ¿O es, por el contrario, Aldo Ochoa el que logra prevalecer?
