Umwelt ist eine Kombination aus verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen, die eine Reihe von biologischen und ökologischen Faktoren in Form von Umwelt und nicht-biologischen (physikalischen, chemischen) Faktoren umfasst, die das Leben einer Person oder einer Art beeinflussen und von ihr beeinflusst werden. Heute wird diese Definition oft auf den Menschen und seine Aktivitäten bezogen, und die Umwelt kann als eine Gesamtheit natürlicher Faktoren der Erde, wie Luft, Wasser, Atmosphäre, Gestein, Pflanzen usw., die den Menschen umgeben, zusammengefasst werden. Der Unterschied zwischen Umwelt und Natur besteht darin, dass die Definition von Natur die Gesamtheit der natürlichen, biotischen und nichtbiotischen Faktoren umfasst, die ausschließlich betrachtet werden, während der Begriff Umwelt entsprechend den Wechselwirkungen zwischen Mensch und Natur und aus der Perspektive des Menschen beschrieben wird. Die Vielfalt des Wetters und die Vielfalt der klimatischen Bedingungen, die Art des Bodens, die Höhenunterschiede und die Unebenheiten gehören zu den Faktoren, die zur Entstehung der Umwelt führen. Die Erdoberfläche wird im Allgemeinen in vier Teile unterteilt, nämlich in die Gesteinssphäre (Lithosphäre), die Wassersphäre (Hydrosphäre), die Atmosphäre und die Biosphäre. Einige Wissenschaftler betrachten auch die Eissphäre als Teil dieser Unterteilung.
