Mientras en Krotón, el influyente místico y filósofo Pitágoras esconde un secreto: el destino establecido en los oráculos puede reconducirse, pero solo por un selecto grupo de agentes encubiertos bien entrenados, los iatromantes «sanadores del destino». Para ello necesitarán contar con la ayuda del único ladrón de templos capaz de robar a un demonio, un joven y cínico atleta con demasiadas cuentas por saldar.
