Una empleada de aduanas bebe de una botella y muere. Mientras, el ingenieroHugo Belcik viaja en búsqueda de clientes y otras personas mueren tras ingerir vino. El ingeniero conoce a una mujer por casualidad y surge el amor a primera vista. Más adelante, Hugo salva a una joven y los bandidos se vengan, siendo Hugo y su amiga víctimas de sucesivos ataques. Finalmente, ambos consiguen un robot capaz de protegerlos y Hugo logra encontrar el motivo de los asesinatos. La trama se centra en el poder del amor incondicional y el vínculo corporal y espiritual entre Hugo y su amiga Veerle.
