Zel1ulare Gesamtorganismu5 Reaktionen Reaktionen Die Beschaftigung mit der biologischen Strahlenwirkung besitzt im Rahmen der Kernenergiediskussion natUrlich eine erhehte Aktualitat, doch war dies weder AnlaB noch Ausgangspunkt fUr den Plan, dieses Buch zu schreiben. Vielmehr glaube ich, daB die Wechselwirkung zwi­ schen Strahlung und biologischen Systemen ein interessantes Studien­ objekt darstellt, bei dem einmal die Verflechtung von Physik, Chemie und Biologie von besonderem Reiz sind und zum anderen Erkenntnisse gewonnen werden kennen, welche bei einer strengen Fachertrennung un­ zuganglich blieben; Fragestellungen der Biologie haben z.B. nicht selten auch zu neuen Ansatzen in der Physik gefUhrt. Die Mikrodosi­ metrie (Kapitel 4) ist hierfUr ein Beispiel. Die Strahlenwirkung umfaBt alle Ebenen der biologischen Organisation, wie das Eingangsbild zu veranschaulichen sucht. Sie beginnt bei der Wechselwirkung mit den Atomen und endet bei der Krebsentstehung und der genetischen Belastung spaterer Generationen. Entsprechend ist das Buch aufgebaut: ausgehend von den physikalischen Grundlagen wer­ den zunachst chemische und subzellulare Systeme besprochen. Einen wei ten Raum nehmen zellulare Effekte ein, weil sie den Ausgangspunkt fUr alle weiteren Uberlegungen bilden. Wirkungen auf den Gesamtorga- VIII nismus schlieBen sich an. Den AbschluB bilden die 'praktischen' Uber­ legungen zurn Strahlenschutz und einige Anmerkungen zur Strahlenthera­ pie.
