En ellos trabaja los más variados temas; desde lo filosófico y religioso a lo político y estético.A continuación comentamos algunos de los textos recogidos en este volumen:En el Discurso del Politeama (1888) González Prada despliega su infatigable activismo haciéndose eco del grito: ¡Los viejos a la tumba; los jóvenes a la obra!, que se convirtió en el lema de su generación y de su tiempo.Discurso del Teatro Olimpo, del mismo año, critica de modo encarnizado la situación literaria peruana.Su campaña en favor de los indígenas se acrecienta por estos años y acaba convertida en un popular ensayo Nuestros indios (1904); este texto y otros en favor de la misma causa son piezas clave en el desarrollo del pensamiento político hispanoamericano: son las primeras muestras indiscutibles de un indigenismo que había superado el tono sentimental y filantrópico.También en El intelectual y el obrero, conferencia pronunciada el primero de mayo de 1905 en la Federación de Obreros Panaderos del Perú, pone de manifiesto su fervorosa defensa de la utopía anarquista.La prosa de González Prada, aunque de combate, es refinada y acusa ya las influencias del modernismo en la transformación del idioma español.Manuel González Prada recibió numerosas críticas por impregnar todo su discurso filosófico, literario y moral de política. Pero esto es justamente parte esencial de su pensamiento. Para élla verdad política no se diferencia de la verdad moral, porque si la política no es una moral en acción (entonces) es el arte de engañar y explotar a los hombres.
