Shelby Adams lived in Little Rock Texas, and when she left her parents home at the tender age of seventeen to live in Los Angeles, no one in the small town of Little Rock, thought too much about it, but Shelby was pregnant. When she gave birth to her first child Carol, she was adopted by a well to do Lawyer, Maurice Benson in Kansas City, Missouri; but two years later Shelby was pregnant again. Her Doctor had a friend who was unable to have children; together, they made arrangements that she would adopt Shelby’s second child Vicky. When Shelby fell pregnant once again two years later to her partner at the time, an Army Corporal named Bobby Nash, she didn’t tell him that she was pregnant as she knew he was being sent to Vietnam to fight for a tour of six months. Shelby thought she would surprise him on his first leave home. Unfortunately, only one month later in a jungle skirmish, Bobby was killed. This time Shelby decided to keep this baby; she named her Eliza, and times were tough, Shelby struggled to raise her on her own until she was six when her parents stepped in to help, this is now Eliza’s story.
